Let's talk Iron. Did you know that your body makes Let's talk Iron. Did you know that your body makes 2,000,000 Red Blood Cells every second?! That is a ton of RBC production and a massive need for iron. Iron is used to make hemoglobin which carries oxygen throughout the body. Here's the thing. Our bodies have a very sophisticated system called the Reticuloendothelial System (RES) that recycles iron. In other words, the iron that is already present within our body can be brought back into the RES where it is recycled and reused and made into new hemoglobin. We need 25mg of iron every day to get this work of red blood cell production completed. BUT the huge shock to me that I learned when studying with Morley Robbins, is that 95% comes straight from the iron recycling system. In other words, we only need about 1mg of iron a day in order to satisfy the need that our body has for 'new iron'.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
So what's the problem? Most people are consuming way more than this on a daily basis. Iron is found in almost all cereal grains thanks to iron fortification programs (metal iron filings in our foods... you can extract them with a magnet). Based on a study in 2004 by Bruce Ames, it's estimated that there is up to 10X the amount of iron stored in our tissues than circulating in the blood. Why is this important?! Because excess iron in the tissues leads to oxidative stress, reactive oxygen species and literally "rust" all over the body. Iron is being stored in the nervous system, heart, liver, spleen, lungs, digestive tract, even within our lymph... I can't drive this point home enough. Iron is everywhere. SO what can you do? The RCP is all about mobilizing iron and getting it back into circulation via bio available copper. Eventually we discuss how we can lower the iron burden through careful iron binding supplementation, phlebotomy or blood donation. I encourage you to dig a little deeper and get curious! As always, this isn't medical advice. Just sharing a bit more about what I do and how I do it! Also, as per my last slide, I believe in the importance of working with an experienced practitioner to ensure you are ready for something like a blood donation!

It can be easy to feel like health is just luck, genetics, or all circumstantial. I have also seen often, that we can abandon our body when we feel like it's letting us down. The circumstances that got you where you are today can't be changed. But you can change. The truth is, when we break free from limiting beliefs, and we come into the mindset that our body is capable of healing and wholeness, we can truly thrive.

We need to trust that when we have symptoms, they are there to indicate a need or imbalance that we have at a deeper level. We need to acknowledge that the body is amazing at doing everything it can to stay in balance and this mindset "I love being in balance" will turn things around inside of you. Listening to what your body is saying and learning to support the needs that you have will empower you to walk confidently and draw boundaries where boundaries are needed. The emotional, spiritual and physical sides of us work together. Your body was created brilliantly to heal and to regulate. Step into that belief and watch as things begin to change.

I grew up on Borscht. Anyone else?! This is the cl I grew up on Borscht. Anyone else?! This is the closest to my grandmothers recipe that I can get. It’s pretty hot 🔥 so ease off the salsa and chilli pepper flakes if that’s not your style! I always use organic vegetables and locally sourced meat whenever possible! 

This is a bit of a labour of love. It’s a process for sure. I start mine late in the morning, after breakfast is cleaned up and then it’s ready for dinner. Here are the instructions:

Simmer the 3lbs meat, 1 diced onion, 1 green pepper and 2 bay leaves with 2tsp salt in enough water/broth (I did a combo of 10 C water and 3 C bone broth) to fully cover, for about 4 hours. 

Skim off the scum from boiling the meat. Add in the diced carrots, cabbage, 1/2 tsp pepper, 1/4 tsp chilli flakes, 4Tbsp fresh dill and parsley (I used dried this time). Simmer another hour or so. Add in the chopped potatoes, tomato paste and salsa and continue to simmer until the potatoes are softened. Season with salt, pepper and more chilli flakes as needed. 

Highly recommend serving with thick slices of sourdough bread and plenty of butter. Many love this with sour cream so you can serve with a dollop of cream if you’d like! Let me know if you’re going to try this recipe

I can’t help myself 🤷🏼‍♀️ This liter I can’t help myself 🤷🏼‍♀️ This literally happened at my niece’s birthday party a few hours ago. I always find myself gravitating to the one or two people at the event who share a similar passion. Had so much fun chatting nutrition and organ blends with you today @carnivoraaaz 😜 we always find each other!

For real though, when you work in this field, it’s hard not to talk about minerals and how they influence every single aspect of life. Someone shares they have a headache or some chronic ailment and you really can’t help yourself. The fun thing about sharing your life with others is that you can always take opportunities to educate and build connections. I’ve actually met new clients at “parties” or “functions” and they were just intrigued by what I was saying and sharing. Building connections is so important for me. As this health space on Instagram can be more than a little overwhelming at times. And I get that.
